Corey Senior Photos #2

Seems like most portrait photo shoots end up like the photo above -- balancing an ambient sunset with a flash exposure on the subject. After a few years you learn the little things that make this shot work -- gelling the flash and dropping the shutter speed to a level where the sunset becomes more dramatic. This photo of Corey was taken behind Farmer's Copper and Marine off Harborside in Galveston -- not exactly the most picturesque part of Galveston. But there are a few subtle things that I really like about it -- the backlighting around Corey's jacket and jeans, his gesture of looking skyward ... little things, but it's those little things combined that make a memorable photo. 1/250 sec at f/8, ISO 200, 56mm, light from an SB900 in a Lastolite EZYbox on a paint pole from camera left.
