From the Archives

Playing with some newly acquired textures and edges. This image was shot on December 31, 2005 at an Indian Pow Wow in Tucson, Arizona. I thought it fit the texture and sepia treatment. The texture is from Jerry Jones, who has a new blog featuring lots of great layering goodies. Here's the link.

  1. This one has a Edward Curtis look. I think his work is fabulous. Your photo has an ageless quality to it. Really nice work.

  3. I like the photo and the sepia treatment. It almost appears to have some IR tones in the lighter areas. Did that occur naturally during the conversion?

  4. The conversion was sort of interesting. This young man had lots of red paint on his face. I tried mixing the color layer with the texture without much luck, so I decided to do a toned base layer. And for some reason I didn't use Nik Silver Efex for the conversion. I went straight to a black and white adjustment layer, and there I was able to desaturate the reds to bring his face into more of a normal tone. At the same time I added a sepia tint, then mixed that layer with two texture layers -- mainly for the edge and also for some additional toning. Any IR is purely accidental. I notice a little yellow also. I could probably spend a little more time with the textures. I didn't mask or finese them much at all.
